Whistleblowing Policy Template
A whistleblowing policy template confirming that every worker can report a concern about wrongdoing at work without suffering any detriment, even if the concern turns out to be mistaken, and that every concern reported is properly reviewed or investigated.
The policy has Approved By and Date Approved fields and carries a Public information classification, so it can be shared with workers, clients and other interested parties.
What the Whistleblowing Policy Covers
- What can be reported - criminal offences, health and safety, damage to the environment, bribery and corruption, sexual harassment, breaches of company procedures, activities that could lead to significant harm or loss, and building safety concerns
- How to report - to management, or to another manager where the line manager is not appropriate, verbally or in writing, with an anonymous route
- What happens next - every concern taken seriously and reviewed or investigated, with the reporter's confidentiality respected
- Protection - protection from victimisation for anyone raising a genuine concern, even if it is mistaken
- Building safety concerns - the route for concerns about building work to the principal contractor or principal designer, and to the regulator
- Whistleblowing protection - the legal protection for workers who report wrongdoing
- Scope and communication - applies to consultants, contractors and trainees, and is communicated at induction and through toolbox talks and to sub-contractors
Two Versions Supplied
The main policy is generic and does not name legislation. P-14 Whistleblowing Policy (V2) names the Public Interest Disclosure Act and adds a legislation section.
Building Safety and the Common Assessment Standard
The building safety section gives the whistleblowing route for building safety concerns that the Common Assessment Standard (CAS) asks about for building and design work.
Using the Policy
Add your company name and logo, check each commitment matches what your organisation does and edit any that do not, then approve and date the policy and share it with workers and anyone else who needs to see it.
