Factory production control works best when the people doing the welding understand it, not just the quality manager. The guidance gives whoever leads the talk a plain account of what the standard expects.
This training talk is supplied in fully editable MS Word format, prepared using the F-Q7 Training Talk Attendance Record form template. All text is in Calibri font for improved readability.
The following document labelling is included in the footer:

BS EN 1090 Compliance and Factory Production Control (FPC) Training Talk
A training talk on BS EN 1090 compliance and factory production control (FPC) for welders, fabricators and supervisors - the standards behind structural steel and aluminium work, welding coordination, inspection and traceability. The download gives you a one-page attendance record with the talk description already filled in, plus the full guidance document to run the talk from.
Two Files in One Download
- TT-4-02 BS EN 1090 Compliance and Factory Production Control (FPC) - the attendance record, with the topic and talk description ready to use and a signature line for each attendee
- GG-4-02 BS EN 1090 Compliance and FPC, OP-4-01 Factory Production Control - the guidance document the talk is based on, to prepare from and to issue to staff afterwards
Talk Description
- The parts of BS EN 1090 for steel and aluminium structures
- Welding quality requirements in ISO 3834, and weld imperfection limits in ISO 5817
- Welding coordination - the responsible welding coordinator (RWC) and workmanship
- Weld procedure specifications (WPS) and welder qualifications
- Checks before, during and after welding, including non-destructive testing (NDT)
- Marking, quarantining and traceability of passed and failed work
Running the Talk
Read through the guidance beforehand, talk the points through with the team, then have everyone sign the record. Keep the signed record as evidence that the briefing took place and who received it.
Why Traceability Is Part of the Talk
Factory production control relies on being able to trace a component back to its materials, its welder and its inspection results. The talk covers marking and quarantining so that staff see how their everyday handling of passed and failed work keeps that trail intact.
Adapting the Talk
Both files are fully editable, so add your execution class, the name of your responsible welding coordinator, your weld procedure references and where failed work is quarantined. Update the talk description if you cover extra points.
Keeping the Training Record
File the signed record with your training records, or log the talk against each attendee in a training matrix, so you can show who has been briefed and when.
Who Is It For?
Welders, fabricators, inspectors and supervisors working on structural steel or aluminium. It works at induction, ahead of an FPC audit and as a refresher when procedures or welders change.
