Scaffolding should be inspected before first use and regularly after, because small changes - a loosened tie, a missing guardrail - are what can lead to accidents occuring.
This form template is supplied in fully editable MS Word format and can be easily customised and edited. The document uses pre-defined style formatting throughout, with all text in Calibri font for improved readability.

Scaffold Inspection Checklist Template
A scaffold inspection checklist for the regular checks that keep installed scaffolding safe to use. It works through the structure and components, the base and ground, guardrails, distance from power lines and hazards, access and platform condition, and confirms whether the scaffold is safe for use.
The Work at Height Regulations 2005 require scaffolding to be inspected before use and at regular intervals by a competent person. This checklist gives you a structured inspection record and supports the operational control requirements of ISO 45001.
Built for the Work at Height Regulations and ISO 45001
The checklist supports the operational control requirements of ISO 45001 (clause 8.1):
- The scaffold structure and components checked for damage and secure fastening
- The base and ground assessed, with base plates secure and no movement
- Guardrails in place for scaffolds over 3 metres, and safe distance from power lines and hazards
- Access and platform condition checked, with a clear safe-for-use confirmation
What's Included in this Scaffold Inspection
The form is set out area by area for a competent-person inspection:
- Header - location(s), completed by and date
- Areas checked - structure, base and ground, guardrails, distance from hazards, access and platform, each with a satisfactory marker and notes / actions
- Confirmation - the scaffold confirmed safe for use, plus additional comments
Who Needs a Scaffold Inspection Checklist?
Any organisation using scaffolding - construction, maintenance, cladding, roofing and industrial work. It is a core record for meeting the Work at Height Regulations and for any business working towards or maintaining ISO 45001 certification.
