Welder Qualification Template
A welder qualification matrix that maps each welder against the weld procedure specifications (WPS) they are approved for, with approval status and retest dates, plus visual inspection and weld repair approvals. One sheet shows who can weld what, and until when.
For structural steelwork to BS EN 1090, welders must be qualified to the relevant weld procedures and their approvals kept current. A quality management system to ISO 9001 also expects people doing the work to be competent (clause 7.1). This record evidences both.
Built for EN 1090 and Welder Competence
The matrix captures the qualification evidence that welding control depends on:
- Each welder and welder ID
- The weld procedure specifications (WPS) the shop uses
- Approval status against each procedure, with retest dates
- Visual inspection and weld repair approvals
What's Included in this Welder Qualification
The form is set out as a qualification matrix:
- Welder - name and welder ID for each person
- WPS approvals - approval status and retest date for each weld procedure specification
- Visual inspection and weld repair - approval status for visual inspection and weld repair
- Key - approval status codes explained on the sheet
Who Needs a Welder Qualification?
Any fabricator or welding business, especially one certified to BS EN 1090, that has to prove its welders are qualified for the procedures they use and their approvals are in date. It suits Responsible Welding Coordinators keeping welder competence under control.
Included in the BS EN1090 Toolkit
This form is part of the BS EN1090 Toolkit - the registers, procedures, forms and guidance for running a welding management system in one download - and is included in every alphaZ ISO toolkit that covers quality management.
Pairs with the Welding Record
This matrix shows the welder is approved; the F-Q44 Welding Record shows what they then welded. Keep the two together for full welding traceability.
