COSHH Assessment — Solidifier (Bitumen / Polyurethane Resin Sealant)
This pre-completed COSHH assessment covers bitumen and polyurethane resin-based sealant products — used for crack filling, joint sealing and waterproofing in construction, roofing and civil engineering.
What Does This COSHH Assessment Cover?
The assessment is fully completed and ready to use, covering all sections required for a complete hazardous substance risk assessment:
- Substance identification — trade name, chemical name (bitumen / polyurethane resin sealant), SDS reference and physical state
- Health effects and first aid — inhalation, ingestion, skin contact and eye contact, with specific first aid for each route
- Hot bitumen and sensitisation hazard — heated bitumen releases fumes with carcinogenic potential; isocyanate-containing polyurethane components are respiratory sensitisers requiring RPE
- Workplace exposure limits — bitumen fume TWA and isocyanate TWA with units, from workplace exposure limits guidance
- CLP hazard classification — Irritant and Long-term health hazard pictograms
- PPE requirements — including chemical-resistant gloves, eye protection, respirator and protective clothing
- Emergency procedures — hot material burns, spillage response and fire precautions
Who Is This COSHH Assessment For?
This assessment is suitable for any workplace where bitumen or PU sealant is used, including:
- Roofing and waterproofing contractors
- Civil engineering and highways maintenance teams
- Construction and groundworks contractors
- Building maintenance and facilities management
