PPE Policy Template

A PPE policy template setting out the commitment to protect workers from exposure to workplace hazards and the risk of injury through the appropriate use of personal protective equipment.

The policy has Approved By and Date Approved fields and carries a Public information classification, so it can be shared with workers, clients and other interested parties.

What the PPE Policy Covers

• Duties - assessing the need for PPE, providing, maintaining and storing it, and giving information, instruction and training
• Risk assessment first - PPE issued only after a risk assessment and after other reasonably practicable controls
• When PPE is used - provided, used and maintained where it is needed to reduce the risk of injury or illness
• Selection - workers involved where practicable, with PPE chosen for suitability, effectiveness, fit, comfort, durability and compatibility
• Conformity - all PPE supplied carrying the required conformity marking

• Records and training - the issue of PPE recorded, and training on its correct use

The PP-7-01 Safe Use and Management of PPE Policy Procedure sets out the procedure, PPE issue can be recorded on the F-HS1 PPE Issue Register and F-HS2 Employee PPE Issue Sheet, and the TT-7-01 Safe Use and Management of PPE toolbox talk briefs workers.

Document Control

The footer carries the policy number and title, information classification, version and page numbers, and the approval fields record who approved the policy and when, so it can be controlled with the rest of your management system documents and listed on a document register such as the F-IMS20 Document Register.
