Lone Working Risk Assessment
What Does This Lone Working Risk Assessment Cover?
- Accident or sudden illness without assistance — a lone worker suffering an emergency with no one present to summon help or provide first aid
- Violence and aggression — lone workers visiting clients or working in isolated locations at increased risk of verbal or physical assault
- Driving and travel risks — lone workers driving to and between sites, particularly in adverse conditions or remote areas
- Remote or isolated working environments — lone workers in remote outdoor locations, empty buildings or at night with reduced access to emergency services
Each hazard includes an inherent risk rating ranging from Moderate to Substantial, and a comprehensive listing of applicable control measures covering areas such as;
- Lone working risk assessments and prohibition of higher-risk tasks for lone workers
- Check-in/check-out procedures and nominated contact arrangements
- Mobile phones, two-way radios and lone worker alarm devices
- Client and location risk assessment before lone visits; paired visits for high-risk locations
- Conflict de-escalation training and personal safety procedures
- Journey management, vehicle maintenance and breakdown cover
- Satellite communication devices and escalation procedures for missed check-ins
A residual risk rating is then assigned to each hazard, demonstrating how effective risk management reduces overall risk to a tolerable level.
