Violence and Aggression Policy Template
A violence and aggression policy template setting out how the organisation prevents, manages and responds to work-related violence, including verbal abuse, for all staff wherever they work and for contractors and delivery personnel on its premises.
The policy has Approved By and Date Approved fields and carries a Public information classification, so it can be shared with workers, clients and other interested parties.
What the Violence and Aggression Policy Covers
- Zero tolerance - no work-related violence, including verbal abuse, towards staff
- Definition - any incident in which an employee is abused, threatened or assaulted in circumstances relating to their work
- Examples - from physical assault and stalking to written aggression, social media posts, spitting and invasion of personal space
- Managers - taking reports seriously, recording every incident, supporting staff, resolving incidents before they escalate, monitoring and working with the police
- Staff - following the policy and safety instructions, using monitoring systems, attending training and reporting incidents and concerns
- Risk assessments - maintained and available to employees, reviewed annually and after changes or incidents
- Assessing the risk - talking to staff, reviewing incident records, and considering the work environment and job design
Written to Be Shared
Like every alphaZ policy, this is written as a public policy statement that can be shared openly with workers, customers, suppliers and assessors. The internal detail of how it is carried out belongs in your procedures.
Using the Policy
Add your company name and logo, check each commitment matches what your organisation does and edit any that do not, then approve and date the policy and share it with workers and anyone else who needs to see it.
Who Needs a Violence and Aggression Policy?
Organisations whose staff deal with the public, customers or clients, work alone, or visit people's homes or premises.
Works with the Violence Risk Assessment
The RA-HS115 Violence and Aggression at Work risk assessment gives a starting point for the assessment the policy asks for, and incidents can be recorded on the F-HS13 Accident Report Form.
Document Control
The footer carries the policy number and title, information classification, version and page numbers, and the approval fields record who approved the policy and when, so it can be controlled with the rest of your management system documents and listed on a document register such as the F-IMS20 Document Register.
