COSHH Assessment — Copper Grease (Copper Anti-Seize Compound / Mineral Oil Base)
This pre-completed COSHH assessment covers copper grease anti-seize compound — a copper powder (20–40% w/w) dispersed in a mineral oil and grease base, used in automotive, engineering and heavy plant maintenance to prevent seized fasteners and high-temperature corrosion.
What Does This COSHH Assessment Cover?
The assessment is fully completed and ready to use, covering all sections required for a complete hazardous substance risk assessment:
- Substance identification — trade name (Copper Grease / Tetrosyl), chemical name (copper powder in petroleum-based carrier), SDS reference and physical state
- Health effects and first aid — inhalation, ingestion, skin contact and eye contact, with specific first aid for each route
- Copper toxicity and aquatic hazard — ingestion of copper compounds is toxic; copper is acutely toxic to aquatic organisms; prevent any release to drains or watercourses
- Workplace exposure limits — copper dust TWA 1 mg/m³ and copper fume TWA 0.2 mg/m³, from workplace exposure limits guidance
- CLP hazard classification — Irritant and Environmental pictograms
- PPE requirements — including nitrile or PVC gloves and safety spectacles
- Emergency procedures — spillage containment to prevent watercourse contamination; fire precautions
Who Is This COSHH Assessment For?
This assessment is suitable for any workplace where copper grease is used, including:
- Automotive repair and vehicle maintenance workshops
- Heavy plant and machinery maintenance operations
- Engineering and fabrication facilities
- Construction and civil engineering contractors
