COSHH Assessment — Metal Paint (Alkyd Resin / Solvent-Borne)
This pre-completed COSHH assessment covers solvent-borne metal paint based on alkyd resin — used for protecting and finishing ferrous and non-ferrous metal surfaces in maintenance, construction and manufacturing.
What Does This COSHH Assessment Cover?
The assessment is fully completed and ready to use, covering all sections required for a complete hazardous substance risk assessment:
- Substance identification — trade name, chemical name (alkyd resin / white spirit solvent-borne paint), SDS reference and physical state
- Health effects and first aid — inhalation, ingestion, skin contact and eye contact, with specific first aid for each route
- Solvent vapour and aspiration hazard — white spirit vapour at high concentrations causes CNS effects; if swallowed, aspiration into lungs is immediately dangerous
- Workplace exposure limits — white spirit TWA and guidance on ventilation requirements
- CLP hazard classification — Flammable, Irritant and Long-term health hazard pictograms
- PPE requirements — including chemical-resistant gloves, eye protection and RPE for spray application
- Emergency procedures — spillage containment and fire response for flammable paint
Who Is This COSHH Assessment For?
This assessment is suitable for any workplace where solvent-borne metal paint is used, including:
- Structural steelwork and fabrication companies
- Industrial and marine coating contractors
- Maintenance painters in manufacturing facilities
- Construction and infrastructure maintenance teams
