Nobody wants to work out the emergency plan during an emergency. Running through it as a talk means staff know the alarm, the exits and the people with emergency roles before they need them.
This training talk is supplied in fully editable MS Word format, prepared using the F-Q7 Training Talk Attendance Record form template. All text is in Calibri font for improved readability.
The following document labelling is included in the footer:

Environmental Emergency Response Training Talk
A training talk on environmental emergency response for all staff - why the first minutes matter, the emergency plan, raising the alarm and recovering the business afterwards. The download gives you a one-page attendance record with the talk description already filled in, plus the full guidance document to run the talk from.
Two Files in One Download
- TT-6-04 Environmental Emergency Response - the attendance record, with the topic and talk description ready to use and a signature line for each attendee
- GG-6-04 Environmental Emergency Response - the guidance document the talk is based on, to prepare from and to issue to staff afterwards
Talk Description
- Why the first minutes of an emergency matter
- Considering the risks that could lead to an emergency
- The emergency plan - getting people to safety and calling the emergency services
- Raising the alarm, and the people with emergency roles
- Keeping escape routes and exits clear, and signs and emergency lighting
- Training and regular practice, and recovering the business after an emergency
Running the Talk
Read through the guidance beforehand, talk the points through with the team, then have everyone sign the record. Keep the signed record as evidence that the briefing took place and who received it.
Why the First Minutes Matter
What people do in the first few minutes often decides whether a leak, fire or flood stays small or becomes a serious incident. The talk opens on this point so that staff understand why they need to know the plan before anything happens.
Adapting the Talk
Both files are fully editable, so add your alarm signals, assembly point, emergency contacts, the names of people with emergency roles and where spill kits and shut-off valves are kept. Update the talk description if you cover extra points.
Keeping the Training Record
File the signed record with your training records, or log the talk against each attendee in a training matrix, so you can show who has been briefed and when.
Who Is It For?
All staff, including new starters, temporary workers and anyone who may be on site alone. It works at induction, alongside drills and practice exercises, and after any change to the emergency plan.
Included in the ISO 14001 Toolkit
This training talk is part of the ISO 14001 Toolkit, and is included in the integrated toolkits that include it.
