Task Method Statement Template

A shorter method statement for a single task, keeping the safe method of work front and centre. It links to the relevant risk assessments and safety guidance and records the PPE, supervision, competence, material and documentation needed, without the wider project detail of a full method statement.

A task method statement is the written safe system of work for a specific job, as expected under the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999. It supports the operational control requirements of ISO 45001 and suits work that does not need a full multi-stage method statement.

Built for ISO 45001 and Task-Level Safe Working

The form supports the operational control requirements of ISO 45001 (clause 8.1):

  • A link to the relevant risk assessments, COSHH assessments and safety guidance for the task
  • The safe method of work set out clearly for the task
  • PPE and safety equipment, supervision, permits and competence requirements
  • Material and documentation requirements, with space for notes

What's Included in this Task Method Statement

The form is deliberately concise so it is quick to produce for a single job:

  • Header - prepared by, date, method statement number and a description of the task
  • Related documents - relevant risk assessments, COSHH and safety guidance
  • Safe method of work - how the task is to be carried out safely
  • Requirements - PPE and safety equipment, supervision, permits and competence, material and documentation requirements, and notes

Who Needs a Task Method Statement?

Any organisation that needs a safe system of work for a specific task without the overhead of a full project method statement - trades, maintenance, installation and service teams, and manufacturing. It supports any business working towards or maintaining ISO 45001 certification.

Pairs with the Full Method Statement

For multi-stage work use the full F-HS23 Method Statement, and for equipment see the F-HS25 Method Statement - Machine. Where the assessment and method belong together, use the F-HS29 Risk Assessment / Method Statement.
